He was walking on the soft moss and crunchy leaves on the ground, hearing a quiet rustle and slightly sinking in the autumnal leaves with each step. He smelled the fresh air and touched the ragged tree bark as he saw the setting sun through the bare trees. He felt at one with nature. Then he sat down to take a breath.
Suddenly, some birds flew off from the trees and broke the tranquil silence of the forest. They weren’t the only ones to start moving though. Some squirrels scattered along the skeletal trees jumping in-between and shaking them, dropping some of the last remaining leaves on the ground. They hopped around like they were on trampolines, seeming to fly between the huge gaps.
Finally, he got up as the sun fully set and it got darker and just like that, the forest quietened again reverting back to its tranquil state. He started walking back to where he came from. Admiring the beautiful forest one last time.
